At a Glance: Schneider EV Chargers Score 3.25 out of 5

Solar Choice has developed a transparent scorecard to evaluate all the EV Chargers available on the market.

Price:  $$$$$: The Schneider EVlink Home Smart Charger is priced around $1,500 when including a cable which makes it a mid-range priced solution.

  • Company Backing in Australia: Unlike most EV charger companies Schneider has over 100 years under their belt as a renowned engineering and manufacturing business. They have a big local support team and office in Australia. We score Schneider 5 out of 5 for company backing.
  • Warranty Offer: In our scorecard we offer 1 point per year of warranty. Like many EV chargers in Australia, Schneider offer a 2-year warranty scoring them 2 points.
  • Solar Compatibility: To enable solar integration the customer must buy the Schneider load shedder. This will monitor the incoming mains and enable the EV charger to charger with surplus solar power. Due to the additional costs, we score this 3 points.
  • Functionality: The Schneider EVlink home chargers come with OCPP connection, dynamic load balancing and an environmental protection rating of IP55. However they come with an option for a shorter 5m cable and there is no LCD screen. We score Schneider 3 out of 5 for functionality.

Overall 3.25 out of 5 is a mid-range score for a EV Charger in our scoring system which reflects their mid range pricing.

Company Overview

Schneider Electric, founded in 1836 by brothers Eugène and Adolphe Schneider in France, initially focused on construction, steel production, and shipbuilding before venturing into the electricity market by 1891.

The company evolved into a global supplier of electrical and industrial automation solutions post the acquisition of Télémécanique in 1981, serving sectors like Buildings, Data Centers, Infrastructure, and Industry with products for energy efficiency and sustainability such as EV chargers.

Although the precise inception date of their EV charger manufacturing is not clear, a notable milestone was on September 19, 2022, when they launched the world’s first EV charger capable of connecting to a Home Energy Management System in Australia, indicating their active involvement in the EV charging solutions sector by that time

The EVlink Home Charging Station is a single-phase charger with 7.3kW and 3.7kW charging options. It’s also available untethered or tethered with a 5m cable. For remote operation with the Wiser Home app, you will need the “Smart” version.

Beyond the 2 single-phase options we’ve compared below, Schneider also have a range of 3-phase chargers.

Schneider’s warranty offer for Australian EV Charger customers

The Schneider EVlink home range comes with a 2 years warranty. Most EV chargers come with 2 years or 3 years. We might have expected Schneider backing their products a little more to put them ahead of the market.

The company does have a local Australian office and plenty of support staff to assist customers in the event of any technical issues.

  1. If you want dynamic load balancing, as I did, check your peak overnight supply voltage. My supply peaks at 253.2 volts most nights and this shuts the charger down requiring a manual reset. A six month wait for Ausgrid to bring my supply into spec has been fruitless as has been my discussions with Schneider about disabling the overvoltage monitor.

    1. Thanks for this feedback John. Sounds like a frustrating issue. Please let us know if you find a workaround to solve this issue.
