SolarEdge Company History
SolarEdge were founded in 2006 and are best known for their DC optimised solar inverter solution. SolarEdge has transitioned into a comprehensive provider within the solar industry, offering a full set of products across the globe. Their range now includes solar panels, solar inverters, solar batteries, DC optimisers, and EV chargers.
SolarEdge was an initial collaborator with Tesla in the launch of their residential battery systems. Nowadays SolarEdge produce their own batteries in their manufacturing plant in China. The company is headquartered in Israel but do have a local office in Melbourne to support Australian customers.
In March 2015, SolarEdge had an initial public offering on the NASDAQ with 7,000,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $18.00 per share, raising US$126 million. They currently have a market capitalisation of around US$1 billion.

SolarEdge Battery Range and Options
SolarEdge have more or less a one sized fits all solution with only one home battery offered to the Australian market. This model is named the BAT-10K1P and features 9.7 kWh of usable capacity. This is a popular system size, but it can be stacked together with 2 more batteries on the same inverter.
The battery has a 100% depth of discharge and, similar to the Tesla Powerwall, uses Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt chemistry which is more popularly known as Lithium-Ion. However it looks like SolarEdge will be moving away from this chemistry for future batteries.
The battery DC-coupled and must be paired with select SolarEdge Genesis, SolarEdge Home Hub or SolarEdge residential 3-phase inverters. The battery can be discharged at 7.5kW for up to 10 seconds which provides the ability for bigger appliances to start up when the battery is providing back up power.
The battery can be paired with a separate piece of hardware to enable back-up power, which will allow homeowners to keep the power running during an outage. This comes at an extra cost and is only available when paired with their single-phase inverters.
New SolarEdge Battery On The Way!
SolarEdge have recently announced they have a new battery solution being released in late 2025. This solution is expected to be modular in battery modules of 4.4kWh. The battery will have a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry which is more popular due to its stability and cost-effectiveness.
This battery will be an ‘all-in-one’, AC-connected solution, which eliminates the need to have a compatible SolarEdge inverter as one will be built into the battery solution.
SolarEdge App and Monitoring Platform
One of the main points of difference for SolarEdge’s home battery solution is the monitoring solution. SolarEdge inverters already offer advantages over most inverters through the inclusion of DC optimisers, and the SolarEdge home battery can be integrated into the same application providing one source of truth for homeowners.
Customers can later choose to add a SolarEdge EV Charger which can integrate into the same ecosystem.
Australian Warranty Terms for SolarEdge Batteries
SolarEdge provides a 10-year product warranty for its Home Battery which covers workmanship and manufacturing defects. This aligns with almost all residential batteries available in Australia. The warranty begins from the earlier of the battery’s installation date or 12 months from the date it is shipped from the factory.
SolarEdge also offer a performance warranty which states the battery will retain at least 70% of its energy capacity by the end of warranty period with unlimited cycles.
Key exclusions from SolarEdge’s warranty:
Warranty Exclusion Wording | Implication |
“Connecting the SolarEdge Home Battery to software, interfacing, parts, supplies or other products not supplied by SolarEdge;” | Connecting a SolarEdge battery to a Virtual Power Plant will likely void the warranty |
“The Home Battery is installed in locations where the ambient temperature exceeds 40°C for5% or more of the warranty period; or the ambient temperature is below 0°C for 5% or more of the warranty period.” | SolarEdge battery may not be warranted in Northern and Southern parts of Australia. |
For warranty claims, customers need to promptly report defects to SolarEdge. Given SolarEdge has an Australian office to assist with the warranty claim process, this appears to be a well-supported warranty offer for Australian customers.

Pros and Cons of SolarEdge Battery
Pros:
- One of the largest inverter companies in the world with good reputation for quality
- All SolarEdge products can been monitored and controlled through one portal (reducing need for multiple apps)
Cons:
- SolarEdge home batteries are only compatible with SolarEdge inverters. As a SolarEdge is a premium solution, many Australians will not already have a compatible inverter to support this battery.
- There is only 1 size battery at 9.7kWh. This offers customer much less flexibility to design the appropriate sized battery for their needs.
So, Should I Buy SolarEdge Battery?
If you have already installed SolarEdge’s inverters or other products, opting for a SolarEdge battery can be a smart choice. This integration allows you to monitor your whole solar system’s performance through just one app. Given SolarEdge offers a reliable and established presence in the solar industry, it should be a good choice for customers. However, SolarEdge batteries are only compatible with SolarEdge inverters, and only come in one size. Many customers will need to look elsewhere to find the best fit solution or wait for SolarEdge’s new battery to be launched in late 2025.
