Overview of ESY Sunhome – Company History

ESY, established in 2004 and headquartered in Shenzhen, China, is a manufacturer specializing in energy storage solutions. The company began by producing batteries for laptops, mobile phones, and power tools, and has since evolved into a supplier of Battery Management Systems (BMS) in China, collaborating with global brands such as Huawei, Samsung, Dell, and Toshiba.

In 2021, ESY Sunhome expanded into the photovoltaic (PV) industry, focusing on the research and development of household energy storage systems. This led to the launch of their first home energy storage solution, the HM6 series, in January 2023 making them a new entrant to the solar battery market.

The company operates out of their main manufacturing facility located in Shenzen, China. ESY SUNHOME has expanded its global presence with offices in Germany, Italy, and Australia, the latter established in 2023.

ESY Sunhome distribute their batteries locally in Australia through relationships with Greentech Sydney, Luxco and Renewables Warehouse.

ESY Sunhome Battery Range

In Australia, the HM6 series has been approved by the Clean Energy Council for local use.

ESY Sunhome HM6 Series

ESY Sunhome HM6 Series

ESY Sunhome HM6 batteries uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry in their, known for their stability and longer cycle life compared to Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries.

The HM6 Series is a single-phase, stackable battery which comes in modules of 5.12kWh usable energy and is expandable up to 30.72kWh. The battery comes with a 6kW hybrid inverter built-in which means the solution can be paired directly with a solar array or retrofitted to existing solar systems.

The PV inverter has 2 maximum power point trackers (which is typical of a 6kW inverter) and can be paired with up to 8kW of solar panel capacity. The battery has built in back-up power functionality and can support up to 6kW which is enough to keep almost all appliances running in a typical household.

ESY also offer an IP66 environment protection rating, making them suitable for installation both indoors and outdoors. They are equipped with a 24-hour monitoring system that alerts users to abnormalities, facilitating timely responses from local service providers. Additionally, the system uses Artificial Intelligence Operations on a cloud platform to recommend optimal operation modes.

Pros and Cons of ESY Sunhome Battery

Pros:

  • Competitively price as new entrant to market
  • Have local office in Greenacre providing technical support and customer service.

Cons:

  • Short history in solar battery manufacturing and solutions have only been on the market for limited period
  • Currently only one single-phase battery series available in Australia

Conclusion – Whats The Verdict on ESY Sunhome Batteries?

The ESY Sunhome battery technically looks to stack up pretty well for a customer considering a new solar and battery installation or simply looking to retrofit a battery to their existing solar system. The main risks come down to the fact that ESY Sunhome only launched their first battery 2 years ago and its very early days. Many of the mainstream battery suppliers have had solutions operating for 10+ years and have been able to demonstrate a track record of reliability. As a result their is minimal customer feedback and reviews available for ESY Sunhome batteries.

They have approached the Australian market in the right way by setting up a local office to support Australian customers.
