About Design Ecology

Design Ecology was formed in 2008 by environmentalist Geoff Lobban.

Managing Director – Geoff Lobban.

Geoff holds both a degree of Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Adelaide and solar accreditation from the solar energy regulation body the Clean Energy Council. He has also studied architecture. He is proud to still do Solar Design in the “Old School” way, and is extremely passionate about giving our customers the absolute best designed system possible. He is continually researching the technology available in the market, and assessing the best value for money components for our customers.

What we do
Design Ecology specializes in the design, supply and installation of solar energy systems and solar storage solutions for both business and domestic use. We also provide energy management and efficiency advice and services.

How we do it
Design Ecology prides itself in custom designed solar generation and related energy management systems. Before preparing a recommendation and quotation, we will carefully assess both the site and the customer’s specific energy usage pattern. The aim is to achieve the most efficient result – both electrically and financially.

The design process includes three steps.

The first step is to assess the customer’s power usage requirements. It’s not just a matter of how much power is consumed, but when it is consumed. Future power needs and the possibility of reducing usage by increased efficiency is also considered. Only then can the financial performance of the system be modeled – including estimated payback periods and return on investment.

Secondly, the location of an installation is considered. Shade analysis is critical in designing the best output from a solar array. Other considerations include aspect, orientation and aesthetics.

The third step is to design the electrical layout, to ensure the equipment performs safely and efficiently in varying weather conditions. This involves selecting which inverter will best suit both the physical layout and the demands on the system.

Once this process is completed, we can then confidently recommend a system that will most efficiently meet your needs.
