A pleasant exprience
Jace worked through the options and we decided a Haier heat pump HWS would fit best with our solar system to allow us to get off . The installation process went flawlessly, After setting the system to heat during our peak solar output time the whole 250 litres of new cold water reached 60 degree within 4 hours. This would have normally been exported at a low rate as our battery was already fully charged by midday when the heating started. The system is virtually silent and I look forward to continued low cost hot water with the ability to reset the charging period to suit solar inputs. The installation looks neat and professional and the disconnection of our gas system meets all requirements leaving is free to make changes to our cooking and room heating.
Heat Pump - Haier
The system is neat and fits under out carport well. 250 litres suits a three bedroom house and the remote control features will be useful.
Not Cheap But Worth Every Cent
I researched and decided to go with a Reclaim unit but Jace from Adelaide Hills Hot Water suggested the Sanden unit as it had some identical parts and was overall a better deal. As I am on the opposite side of town, I took pictures and Jace worked out a suitable install. I went with the largest tank (about 300L) and Wi-Fi connection via an app. The install went flawlessly (including removal of a previous solar hot water system that I was never happy with), all the pipes were well insulated and the water was nice and hot. As I have solar panels, it's best for the system to heat the water from around 11AM so I set the App to do that every day. I never run out of hot water and I don't have to do anything since setting the App. I separately had a thermal mixer tap installed in the shower so all I do is open the tap, wait about 7 seconds and step into the shower adjusted to my favourite temperature regardless of washing machines, toilet flushes etc elsewhere in the house. In the Winter quarter the water is heated on the cheapest electricity tariff and the rest of the year it's all free from the sun. Some days it will pull just over 1 KWh and others around 2-3 Kwh (depending on usage and ambient temperature). It's about the most expensive unit available but it has a great warranty and anyway has worked flawlessly from Day 1 .... I am EXTREMELY happy with it's operation, the cost to run it and everything to do with it.
