An apartment building in Cremorne has become one of the first strata buildings in Australia to install a shared solar system that includes battery storage.
Solar Choice was initially engaged by the chairperson of the Owners’ Corporation in 2023 to conduct both a solar and electric vehicle charging feasibility study for the building. The solar feasibility study included a detailed breakdown of the expected costs and the savings expected for the common area and each individual owner.
Following consultations with the strata committee, the owners decided to proceed with a tender process to find the optimal installer and quote for the shared solar project. Solar Choice managed a process with 3 competing installers who all had experience in similar projects

The project passed the vote at an AGM in 2024 and was subsequently installed by the winning tenderer.
The installed system features 56 Jinko solar panels, a 2 x 10kW hybrid SolarEdge inverters and a 10kWh SolarEdge battery. The system is estimated to produce around 3,300 kWhs per year which will be equitably shared across the 9 residential units in the building.
Solar Choice advised tenders to use micro-inverters or power optimisers (such as SolarEdge) due to the shading the roof receives which is evident in the photo above. This technology will minimise the impact of shading on the systems energy output.
