Strata Apartment Building in Alexandria installs 26kW shared solar system

Allume solshare apartment building installation in Alexandria, NSW

A 14 unit residential apartment building in Alexandria has installed a shared solar system to provide renewable energy to all the individual apartments in the building.

Solar Choice was initially consulted in 2020 by the Treasurer of the strata committee. Following consultation with the owners, Solar Choice completed a solar feasibility study for the building in September 2022. This study evaluated 2 options to install solar, with the owners deciding to progress with the shared solar system.

Solar Choice conducted a survey of all owners of the building and estimated the individual return on investment for each owner in the building to help gather the required support for the project.

Following consultation with the owners, Solar Choice conducted a detailed tender process from 3 pre-vetted installers in Sydney, of which the committee selected one to progress to an AGM and vote in 2023. The strata manager and a solicitor supported the voting process and the creation of the a new by-law to support the solar project. The project passed the voting requirements and was installed later in 2023.

The final design included 59 x Jinko solar panels, 1 x 20kW Sungrow inverter and 1 x Allume solshare device. The system is expected to generate around 40,000 kWh of renewable energy per year which will be equitably divided between all residents of the building.
