Generous solar buyback rates are available to not-for-profits, schools, community organisations, and charities who install solar power systems in and around Perth, WA. This article is an overview of the rates currently available to Synergy Energy customers on the South West Interconnected System (SWIS).
The Synergy grid: Perth and Surrounds
Synergy Energy services the southwestern region of Western Australia, stretching from Kalbarri to the north, Albany and Walpole to the south, and Kalgoorlie Boulder to the west. If you are a non-residential customer (not-for-profit, educational, etc) serviced by Synergy, you may be eligible for the solar feed-in tariff rates detailed below.
If you are a new residential solar customer on the Synergy network in WA, you are eligible to receive 8.4c per kilowatt-hour (kWh, or units) for electricity you do not consume yourself. For residential customers, the benefits of going solar in Perth are roughly the same as the benefits of going solar anywhere else on the Synergy grid. Read more about installing solar panels on your home in Perth.
If you are a residential customer who is signed up for WA’s state-sponsored feed-in tariff (now closed to new applicants), you will continue to receive 20c/kWh or 40c/kWh, depending on when you signed up.
Important notes: The upper limit for all solar system sizes to receive a Solar Buyback rate is 5 kilowatts (kW). Commercial enterprises are not eligible for the Solar Buyback rates detailed below.
