Solar Choice’s Gannawarra Solar Farm approaches ‘construction ready’ milestone

The first 50 megawatt segment of Solar Choice’s largest Victorian project – the Gannawarra Solar Farm – is slated to be ‘construction ready’ in the next two months. The farm, located near Kerang along the NSW border, was recently short-listed as a candidate for a funding boost from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), and is one of only two Victorian projects to make the list.

A recent article in The Age frames the story of the farm’s development against the background of policy uncertainty and past disappointments in the state, the most noteworthy of which is the now shuttered Mildura Solar Farm. Gannawarra, along with the other Victorian project on ARENA’s list, hold the promise of ending this dark age in Victoria’s history.

A grid connection study is also in the works, and should be completed within the same time frame as the construction ready milestone.

The project may ultimately be expanded to a total of 300MW, bringing long-term employment opportunities to the region.
