Solar Choice Commercial has brokered 100kW solar system for Perth‘s iconic Sandalford Wines. Sandalford, located on the banks of the Swan River, is known as much for its wines as for the host of internationally renowned artists who perform there on a regular basis – and for its reputation as a popular wedding and function venue.
The winery is owned by the Prendiville family, who have long had an interest in solar power, having contemplated installing solar panels on a roadhouse on the Nullarbor as far back as the 1980’s. Determined to at long last make their clean energy dreams a reality on an even larger scale, the Prendivilles set out to source a solar installer through an energy consultant who ultimately put them in touch with Solar Choice in 2013.
In April 2014, Solar Choice’s managing director Angus Gemmell conducted a site survey at the winery and managed a tender of options for the client; the tender was ultimately won by a strong Perth-based installer. Solar Choice’s commercial work was conducted through an online tender management platform created specifically for the project. This platform enabled Sandalford’s management team to compare a range of quotes from some of the most prominent installers in the region, with the Solar Choice team on hand to guide them through the decision-making process.
The system which was ultimately chosen uses REC solar panels and a 100kW Fronius inverter. Installation and commissioning were completed in late October 2015.
